Your email and your website both use your domain, but they use different DNS records. Moving the website doesn't have to touch your email. Zome doesn't host business email, so yours stays with whoever runs it today.
What Zome asks you to change
An A record for @ and a CNAME record for www, and sometimes a TXT record named _zome. Nothing else.
What to leave alone
- MX records: they say where email is delivered.
- Other TXT records: some prove that your email provider is allowed to send as you.
- Records your email provider asked you to add.
Before you change anything
- Open your domain's DNS page and look at what is there.
- Take a screenshot or copy the list, so you can put anything back.
- Change only the A record for @ and the CNAME for www.
If you change name servers
Zome doesn't ask you to change name servers. If you do that for another reason, such as moving your DNS to Cloudflare, copy every record to the new place first, MX records included. Records that aren't copied stop working.
Check your email afterwards
Send yourself a test message from another account and reply to it. Do this after the records change, not before. If email stops, put the screenshot's records back.
