Connecting a domain doesn't switch anything off by itself. Your old website only stops showing when you change the records.
Step by step
- Before you change the records. Your old website keeps answering at your domain. Nothing changes for visitors.
- After you save the two records. Your domain opens your Zome website instead, once the status on the Domain tab says Live.
- Afterwards. The old website still exists at its old hosting. It just isn't what your domain shows.
Keep your old hosting until the status says Live. Then you can switch back by changing the records, if you need to.
Send old addresses to the new pages
Visitors and Google may have your old page addresses saved. On the Domain tab, under Your old website's addresses, send each old address to the matching new page. See Keep your old website's addresses working.
Cancel the old builder last
Cancel the old website builder or hosting only when:
- your Zome site is published and shows at your domain,
- your old page addresses go to the right new pages, and
- your email works.
Your domain itself stays at your registrar. Cancelling the old builder doesn't cancel the domain, unless the same company holds both. Check before you cancel.
