Not open yet: Zome is not selling or moving domains yet. This page explains how it will work, so you can decide ahead of time. Until it opens, keep your domain where it is and connect it: see Connect your own domain.
This page is about domains registered through Zome: ones you bought here or moved here. A domain you connected from another company renews at that company.
How renewal works
Zome renews your domain once a year for one more year, on the card you paid with. You pay first, and only then does Zome renew it. Nothing is renewed that you have not been charged for.
For a domain moved here, Zome sets the first renewal about a year after it arrived, which is a little before the registration really runs out, so a renewal can never come late. The date on your domain's card is the date Zome acts on.
What it costs
The renewal price is the price shown when you bought or moved the domain, in US dollars (US$). Registries can change their prices, so Zome asks for the current price each year and tells you in the reminder 30 days before. Some endings, such as .io, renew for much more than they cost in the first year, which is why the search shows both prices.
Reminders
- 30 days before it expires, Zome emails you the date and the price.
- If renewal is on and your card works, Zome charges it in the last 7 days before the domain expires, renews the domain and emails you a receipt with the new date.
- If renewal is off, or Zome has no card it can charge, Zome emails you again 7 days before it expires.
If the card does not go through
Zome tries once a day, up to three times, and emails you each time. After the third try it sends one last warning and stops trying. If you see one of these emails, write to Ask the Zome team, say the domain name and we will sort out the card with you. Every one of these emails also tells you how to take the domain with you for free.
If the domain expires, your website stops answering at it. Your Zome address keeps working. Registries often keep an expired domain for a short grace period, so it may still be possible to renew it. Write to Ask the Zome team at once.
If you cancel your plan
The domain is yours, not part of your plan. It keeps renewing as long as your card works, and the emails say your plan has ended.
Turn renewal off
On the Publish and domain tab, find the domain's card, Your domains, and switch Yearly renewal off. The domain then expires on the date shown and Zome emails you before it does. You can switch it back on later, before it expires.
Take the domain with you
You can move the domain to another company at any time, for free. See Move your domain out of Zome.
